History of Erie’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Since 1987, the Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick have proudly organized the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Erie. Paul Causgrove, the current President, highlighted the parade’s history, mentioning that Jim Mahoney served as the Grand Marshal for the first parade, setting a tradition that has continued over the years.

In his inaugural year as President, Causgrove faced some challenges from Mother Nature, but the Streets Department played a crucial role in ensuring the streets were clear for the event. Despite winter weather conditions, the community response and participant turnout exceeded expectations.

Causgrove expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing their commitment to rebound after the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The parade saw a significant increase in participants compared to the previous year, reflecting a positive momentum for the Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick.

Looking ahead, Causgrove is already enthusiastic about planning the 2024 parade, aiming to further grow participation, increase membership, and continue providing a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together.
